PAPER FLOWER.

I came up with the idea for the Paper Flower from a magazine photo quite awhile ago- it was a piece of art wayyy back in the back of the photo, just an addition to a bookcase but I loved it! I have a stash of stained wooden plaques lying around (remnants of a project that died before it even lived, so sad) so with cardstock, a sharpie, scissors, and multi-purpose glue I set out to make my own variation.

How I did it: I started by 'hashing' lines on the cardstock to create a texture, you could use scrapbook paper, news print, or plain. I then cut out circles and folded them into quads. I cut deep curves into the folded paper so when you opened it up it became more of a clover shape. I then glued them on at different angles and let dry. After they were completely dry I pulled the edges up ever so slightly to not lose the three dimensional look.

And there you have it.

SUNDAY.

This was one of those weekends that you just wish was never ending.

Sunday was the most beautiful day we have had so far this spring- we lunched on the patio at one of our favorites (Pasha), we saw Five Year Engagement (so sweet and funny!), we ate fro' yo', and we goofed off on the roof of the parking garage (say that 5 times fast).

Sometimes I think its good to not be serious at all about your outfit photos. And just leap across a parking lot. While laughing loudly.

Tonight has been pretty amazing as well- being a Monday and all. We took a walk right before the thunderstorms rolled in, so the earth looked amazingly green and the air smelled so clean. We made grilled cheese sandwiches as the rain started and watched a show I am kind of in awe in. I discovered a really amazing technique to use for the accessory line and had an impromptu dance party to Queens of the Stone Age's Monster in the Parasol (hm, yes- it is a real song)

Not to brag or anything.

DIY: FLORAL HEADBAND.

I love all of the DIY floral crowns that are to be found out there on the interwebs and this simple headband is just a spin off of those. I think twine is oh so pretty and romantic, add some flowers and you have yourself a lovely accessory to carry you through the spring ... hello May!

 Supplies needed: Silk flowers, twine, needle and thread, scissors.

Step by step: 1. cut three strands of twine (mine were 36 inches long, measure around your head and leave extra) and cut off a handful of silk blossoms. 2. knot your twine together at one end leaving about two inches for tying. 3. Begin braiding! 4. Once you have gotten to the end, knot again, and leave another 2 inches for tying off.

 Sew your blossoms on!

and then enjoy your pretty twine and blossom headband- so pretty and simple! If you aren't great with a needle and thread I think you could use hot glue on this craft just as easily!

TURN THOSE GRAY SKIES TO BLUE.

It has been so gray around here lately- thunderstorms, humidity, lazy hazy afternoons. You would think it were August! But this morning I woke up to actual sunlight streaming in- and it was a good feeling.

Yesterday I just couldn't get kicked into high productive mode- but today? I am ready to go! Lots of work and fun things to pack into my Sunday. The next three weeks are going to be dedicated to my 9-5 so I have to get the majority of my affairs in order today :) I will be out of town the second half of this week but don't worry, I have posts ready to go for you and I am sure the mister will swoop in at some point to share a thing or two.

Also- we are excited because we are now the proud owners of shophersandhis.com! That's right, we are much easier to find now- I know you are just as giddy as I am ha!

Yesterday morning we had a coffee/Target/craft store date. Those are the best. It was, as you may assume, gray out, so I went more comfy casual.

This is my first pair of 'Boyfriend' style denim- ummm, in love.  I don't know why I waited so long to hop on that band wagon.

Friday night I went to see the Avengers with the husb. Did you see it? Pretty awesome, right? And today we are going to go see The 5 Year Engagement (my pick ha ha!) I am pretty excited to see it. Jason Segel rarely disappoints.

BOOK CLUB: KELLY CUTRONE-NORMAL GETS YOU NOWHERE.

I love Kelly Cutrone. She is a straight talker, no nonsense, go big or go home type woman who is the complete opposite of me (sugar coater, people pleaser ... you get the idea). I am still on the fence on this book- there are some really awesome parts like her views on the fur industry ...

'Take a minute our of your day to visit the website of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA.org- I mean, just one minute, I beg you! View some videos of minks in their cages, suffering with open wounds and engaging in stress-induced cannibalism, or foxes with their legs stuck in traps, literally gnawing them off in terror. If you still think fur is sexy, then you should f-ing take a ticket straight to hell and meet your other friends.' (quoted, pgs 22-23)

Amen, right? Even though I take this passage very seriously I also laughed out loud, I could just see her saying this on her show in her 'in your face' way.  She also touches on how we should make sure we are not accepting what the media feeds us at face value, but research what we feel passionate about and figure out what we find worth fighting for. Insightful, and empowering is what I felt the first half of her book was themed around and I loved it!

On the other side, I felt towards the end of the book she got a little 'celebrity syndrome' and started name dropping unnecessarily and letting us know some of the special treatments she has received for being a celebrity in her own right.  Which, whatever, I can try and look past but it irked me at the time so it kind of changed the way I looked at the second half of the book. There were still underlying points that were meaningful, you just had to wipe away some of the fluff. 

Overall- she did make good points, that being an individual, a thinker, a doer, is better than being a sheep. And her story telling is entertaining for sure. I wouldn't let my opinions deter you from picking this book up, but just take them as a warning if you prefer the famous avoid letting on that they know they are famous ha!

I am still undecided on my book for May- anyone have any suggestions??

HERS AND HIS STYLE: SPRING LAYERS.

I know I say it all the time but ... I love our evening walks! This week has been so rainy but today is bright and sunny, now I just need the mister to get home.

I love love my pink hair extension- like, a lot. Its my dream to have cotton candy pink hair (will probably never happen) so this is the closest I can get. And it matches Stella's accessories perfectly.

We are half way through the week people! So excited for this weekend- I am looking forward to two days of sheer productivity. Until then I will be plugging along little by little and getting inspired!

THE LITTLE THINGS.

Today everything seemed to be about the little things- little compliments, little gestures, little details in my outfit ... you know? An over all average day but full of little moments to remember.

This is one of the new bows coming out June 1st! Its the gingham large bow- I love it! I might be a little bias though. Nothing makes you feel more dapper than a bow tie, at least in my book!

I have wanted these Bon Look glasses for like ... ever. And now they will be mine :) The mister and I had an appointment with the eye doc today and let me tell you I did not remember how trippy having your pupils dilated felt. Crazy. Especially when you have to drive. At dusk. In the rain.

Here's to hoping tomorrow is back to sunny!
